This is a thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelors of Science in Sociology. A thesis presented on the disparities in utilization of hospice care, based on differences in socioeconomic status, race, and ethnicity.
Hospice is now an accepted part of end of life care. Many people will be responsible for end of life decision making at least once in their lives. We all have parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings, and spouses and there is no one "right" method. I found that there are disparities based on socioeconomic status.
Studies have shown that while hospice may not discriminate intentionally, there are groups of people who simply do not access hospice care.
